ABC's of Glass Fusing Saturday, May 1 10-2pm

This class is designed as an entry level look into the exciting world of fusing glass. Students will be given the basics what fusible glass is and how it behaves. A variety of techniques will be presented including instructions on glass cutting and a kiln programming demo. All materials are included and there will be a broad palette of colors and resources to choose from. Class time will include a break for lunch. Two projects will be completed. Students will also receive a written handout, so that they may review what a wonderful time they had. Basic Intro: What is Fusible Glass? Compatibility/ COE Effects of temperature: Tack vs. Contour vs. Full Fuse, also Slump Stickiness of glass: Kiln wash vs. Shelf Paper (Papyros & Thinfire) Also Boron Nitride for molds Volume Control: 6mm rule What can you decorate with? Instruction on use of frit, stringer, noodle, niblets, vitrigraph and dichro. Demo: How to cut glass with the Morton system, simple freehand cuts and how to use the nippers and grinder. Demo: How to program a kiln using the RTC controller. Each student will make two projects!
