BLOWN HOLLOW LAMPWORK BEADSBLOWN HOLLOW LAMPWORK BEADS Class description-- Students will learn how to create a hollow bead from parallel disks of soft glass. Once the bead is formed, students will then blow the bead into spheres using a "puffy" mandrel, which involves a careful balance of heat and movement. Students will then go the next step and decorate the hollow bead with glass rods and stringers. Students will also learn the technique for putting bead release on these unique mandrels. Class involves the use of a torch with open flame and gases. Students should wear cotton clothing and closed-toe shoes. Didymium glasses and lampworking tools will be provided. Students should bring a variety of soft-glass rods, including silver glass and other reaction glass. Students will need to purchase puffy mandrels for this class, which will be available on the day of class. This is an advanced beginner class. Flameworking with Lisa St MartinThis class is designed for the beadmaker who wants to add that extra sparkle or glimmer to their beads. Many beadmakers hesitate to work in the fun but expensive materials such as dichroic glass because they are difficult to work with. This class will de-mystify these hard to handle materials with tips and tricks that will give your beads the glitter you are looking for. In class, we will work with dichroic glass, metals for layering and inclusions – copper, silver, gold; metals for fuming – silver and gold; enamels, frits and powders; fine silver wire for granulation; copper sheet, wire and mesh and more. We will also cover clean casing and other decorative techniques to add that extra to your work. In this class you will learn that – all that glitters – is not just gold, but dichro, silver, reactive frits and so much more! Guest Artist: Trey CornetteIn this two day class we will explore some of the many possibilities with 104 COE glasses. Our canvas will be large scale tab and tube form beads upon which we will experiment with many types of decoration. Trey will demonstrate my methods for forming large beads, Scrollwork application, Millifori floral canes, working with Reichenbach 108 (RAKU), and others. He will demonstrate some of the beads he makes, the processes involved, and will help you find your own patterns and styles using these methods. We will also learn how to pull our own Raku cane from the large kilo rods furnace workers use. There will be plenty of time reserved specifically for individual exploration and instruction. Bring your questions and ideas as the class will evolve around them. Intermediate Flame: Open TorchDo you love torchworking, but lack the equipment and space to do it? Join others in the same boat at our studio. Please call to reserve your space. We will have Minor torches set up. Others may be available if requested. Please bring your own tools and supplies, or you may purchase them during the evening. |
