One of the qualities for which Robert Oddy's work is known is the illusion of depth in his stained glass windows and panels. This is achieved by a combination of techniques, including the use of multiple layers of glass (Plating), copper foil overlays, careful choice of glass and appropriate design principles. Bob will explain the principles in a number of short presentations, and students will work on a project to practice the techniques. The pattern for the project will be sent to students prior to the workshop, and they will be asked to do some preliminary work so they can focus on the more advanced work during the workshop weekend. This two-day workshop is intended for more advanced students: people who have already mastered the basic techniques of working in stained glass, particularly the copper foil method.
